Looking for the Right 'Wrong' Approach

I'm stuck and I need your feedback. Each and every day I see the same thing in the news. '40 dead in Gaza', '60 dead in Gaza', '20 dead', '80 injured' etc. At some point, I thought, what numbers do the lords need for this to be declared as a 'Genocide'. 'Do we need to hit any target metrics of death and destruction?' etc.

Then it occurred to me that I can use dark humor or satire to confront 'denialism'. So I built https://howmanymore.xyz/. It's uncomfortable. A clicker experience about reclassifying deaths as 'acceptable losses'. It gamifies 'denial' to expose absurdity. So the 'experience' will be absurd as intended. (P.S. Built this on a train journey with Replit app)

Then I felt this might be too offensive and disrespectful. So I built gaza-genocide-threshold.replit.app. This is a genocide recognition calculator that asks users to set their own thresholds before revealing the stark reality. How many deaths before you would call it genocide? It starts almost academic, then BAM, reality check.

"Okay. This is too academic now. Reduces everything again to numbers which I am against." So I thought. I discussed with my partner and she gave me the idea for gaza-counter.replit.app. I built this like a countdown clock that shows when Gaza's population would hit zero at the current rate of death. Just numbers ticking backward into oblivion.

Now I'm wondering if I've crossed a line or if I haven't gone far enough. The calculator might feel too cold and clinical. The satire could seem tasteless. Who makes a game about this stuff? And the countdown? Yup, it literally turns human lives into a timer. Trust me, I've had all these conversations with myself.

But here's the thing: I've watched the regular news coverage, the social media posts with their careful language and contextless numbers, and people just... scroll past. We've built up this immunity to horror. The truth is, I don't know which approach is "right" because maybe there is no perfect way to tell a story this devastating. What I do know is that traditional methods of presenting these statistics no longer work.

I just want people to stop for five seconds and actually feel something.

If these make you uncomfortable, angry, or even offended, maybe that's not a bug, it's a feature? I honestly don't know anymore. That's why I need your take. What works? What's too much? What actually makes you stop scrolling and think, 'Holy shit, this is real?'

So yeah, let me know what you think. Rip it apart if you need to.

By the way, here are some recent impressive works regarding the Israel/Palestine issue.

1. Matthew Cassel: 'Along the Green Line'

2. Louis Theroux: 'The Settlers'
