What does your daily commute actually cost you?

The commuters of the world.

Where it stands

Started from a question: can you stop traffic before it happens, by looking at it one commuter at a time instead of one jam at a time? It's a slow grind and I'm still figuring it out as I measure.

Driving a petrol hatchback alone, 12 km each way, 22 days a month, puts out about 855 kg of CO2 a year.

Worked out the way the Commute Impact Calculator does it: km each way × 2 × 22 days × 12 months × 0.135 kg of CO2 a km. That factor is 2.27 kg of CO2 a litre of petrol (India GHG Programme), × 1.4 for real-world driving (ICCT), ÷ 23.58 km a litre, a hatchback's ARAI-certified mileage. How the calculator works

The most production-grade thing I've built. It takes the most invisible habit you have, the commute you stopped noticing years ago, and gives it back as time, money, and carbon you can feel, then points to a lighter way to go: bus, metro, carpool.

I run it with a small team of named AI agents, one of them a critic called Fletcher whose only job is to distrust me. No public number ships until Fletcher, or I, can defend it against a real, public source.

Versioned scoring, v1.2, with cited emission factors and IRC road-space constants. Every public number is defended by Fletcher, a critic agent whose only job is to distrust me. There's now a Rick Rubin agent too, the producer's ear. Twice a sprint, at the close and again before the next plan is drafted, it only asks questions, like: does this slice serve what the product is trying to be, and what do I want that I haven't said? It gives no verdicts and can't block a build.
